The Spinettes (in aid of the Alzheimers Society) 25 September 2016
Were you there? Did you see 'em?
Three of the sweetest gals on our very own stage, warming our hearts and singing the songs of our mothers' lives ... well, maybe some from our own lives!
Sunday afternoon at the Ashington Centre was taken over by the Spinettes and their host Matthew Goodgame. They have performed in the West End, at the Shard and the Goodwood Revival and now they have made it to Ashington. The audience settled into their seats not really knowing what was coming ... but hoping. And we weren't disappointed. Almost two hours of entertainment and refreshments during which the Spinettes gave us classics from the Andrews Sisters era like Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy and many more.
For Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree they brought on three mini Spinettes dressed accordingly (very young fans from Amberley) who wowed the crowd while the full sized Spinettes gave backing vocals.
Matthew crooned 'I Get a Kick Out of You' and 'Mack The Knife' before kicking up a gear after the interval as Danny Zuko surprising an unsuspecting 'Sandy' in the audience and singing to her on stage. And so into the jive era much of the crowd were jiving and twirl on the dancefloor before the big New York New York finale. As retro and vintage as you like and completely marvellous. Well, I liked it, and I was not alone. They will be back in November. Don't miss them.
